Scientists at the University of California, Davis, have recently published a comparative study of glucose and fructose as sweeteners in a beverage.
In this study, 32 overweight or obese men and women were randomly assigned to drink glucose or fructose as a sweetener in three copies per day for 10 weeks. Subjects did not consume other sugary drinks, including fruit juice, during the study period.
We found similar weight gain in both trial groups at the end of the study. However, the fructose group of the intraabdominal fat increased, dyslipidemia, in addition to the liver fat volume increased, LDL cholesterol, triglyceride levels increased. These was no found in the glucose group.
Dr.Peter.J, the first author of the paper, and a professor of nutrition at the school. Havel says that most sweeteners in the market and in restaurants today are not glucose, but fructose corn syrup or sucrose (a mixture of glucose and fructose). This means that almost all sugar condiments will cause metabolic changes in the body that can increase the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
